Good Evening-

A bit informal, but I want to get them out...

The monthly meeting of the Stamford Amateur Radio Club was called to order on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 8:05pm.

Ernest presented the Treasurers report.  There is $2500 after the state registration fee of $50.  Ernest was on top of the registration / tax law change this year.  It is now required every year (instead of every 3 years).

Presentations:
Tonight's presentation was supposed to be a ramp up to Field day, but Terry (W1TSM) was unable to make the meeting.  However, we still need cable, rope, extension cords and RG-8X cable.  Please check the website for food sign ups and other things that may still be needed.  Please don't forget to bring you non-ham relatives and friends for the GOTA station!   Field Day is all about club participation, so please come by to support the club even if it's just for a few minutes.  While Saturday at 2pm may not be the best time to come by (that is when Field Day officially starts), Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning is a good time.

Stan suggested we allow club members to access the logging software before the event so they can become familiar with it.  It can be downloaded, and Fred will send the link (John S will post it on the internet).

Finally, don't forget we need people to help with antenna set up Friday afternoon, around 3pm.

Public Service Events:
There is one event coming up:
 1) Bennet Cancer ride on Sunday June 6 (we have a good turnout so far, thank you for the volunteers!)
Also, there will be a VE test on July 10 with the new Tech test.
And Adam (W1ASB) is planning a trip to Sheffield Island with his portable beam. The island has an IOTA number.

Adam would like to use the "W1EE Portable" call sign. Ernest stated this would be OK, but Adam will need to handle QSO cards.

Adam will note QRZ that he will be using W1EE Portable. Contact Adam (W1ASB) for more information.

Tony (KB1SUN) is coming up to speed on NBEMS. This is part of the club effort to ramp on on EMCOMM.

Regarding projects of personal interest to the club, all members are welcome to volunteer their time and effort for pet projects. The club will support the members, but members should lead the project so it can get done. If there is something a member feels the club should be doing different, suggest the change instead of complaining, and the club will support you! However, it is important to make notes of your tests so that the database of knowledge can be expanded.
Presentation: Fred and Ernest talked about their trip to Dayton. This year was very successful with an estimated 22,000 people on site! For the fist time in as long as Ernest can remember, it didn't rain for all 3 days! Ernest spent a whole day walking through the flea market. There were a large number of presentations / seminars & forums. Ernest was able to settle some questions regarding the club after discussing them with the ARRL.
Fred added that while this was Ernest's 20th trip, it was only Freds' second. And while Ernest drove (14 hours), Fred flew (and it took him nearly as long!) As always, there are a lot of interesting people. Fred did see the Flex Radio QRP model, which was very interesting. He also saw a horse fence antenna; it is very small and based on a large diameter wire loop. Both Fred & Ernest agreed it was active and the vendors were happy.
Jon (KB1QBZ) presented the logging software used for Field Day. Fred reminded us of the ARRL message that broadcasts the Friday night prior to Field Day. This can get us extra points on mulit bands and multi modes.
Finally, Fred showed a battery tester. He is offering to club members to use to test their batteries.
And tonight's 50/50 winner is Andy (N2CN)
Reminder: There is no July or August meeting! Enjoy the summer!!
